The course is run in partnership with the University of Wales, Bangor and Plas Menai National Watersports Centre and after completing the HND programme, successful students can progress to study a further two years at the University towards a degree in Sports Science. |

BSc (Hons) Applied Sport & Exercise Sciences
These programmes will help students gain an understanding of Sport and Exercise Sciences by learning through ‘hands on experience’. Areas of study include physiology, psychology, biomechanics, coaching, practical sport, health and exercise promotion. Students will gain an insight into the various roles of the sport and exercise scientist and related professions through a variety of practical and applied experiences. To reflect the growing national agenda with healthy and active lifestyles, students will learn about the importance of exercise in enhancing physical and mental health; however, the programme also retains an emphasis on sport performance from more ‘traditional’ study in sports science.

Details:
This degree is designed to provide students with comprehensive academic, practical and vocational skills in the rapidly growing field of community sport development. There is a strong workplace focus, and students have the opportunity to shadow employees in the Community Sport Development Sector, undertake a placement, or act as a consultant solving workplace problems and issues. Students can elect to study a Youth Studies or Education strand or can opt to take modules in Sports Coaching. Whatever combination a student chooses they will graduate with a diverse range of skills which are in demand by the sport development industry.
This degree is aimed at students who specifically want to pursue a career within sport development , however the course will also equip students (depending on the choice of options) with the skills to pursue roles including community liaison, involvement in rural and urban sports schemes, young people’s activities, health promotion, sport coaching and preparation for entry onto a PGCE.

Following a research-based approach to study, this degree will enable you to study physiological and psychological aspects of human performance, with a special focus on participating in activities completed in extreme environments. This course, run in partnership with Coleg Menai, is suitable for those seeking a sound educational background in the areas of sports science and outdoor education by gaining a nationally-recognised qualification. The Plas Menai National Watersports Centre, just 4 miles from Bangor, also has substantial input into the course. At the same time you will have the opportunity to study towards other qualifications, including first aid and various coaching awards, which will broaden your knowledge and increase your chances of employment. The successful completion of this HND programme will give you entry into the second year of the BSc Honours degree in Sports Science at the University.
Although this is an English-medium programme, parts will be presented bilingually, with both oral and written assessment available in Welsh if you so wish. You will have the support of your personal tutor, in your chosen language, every step of the way.
