Mari began sailing from a young age with her parents being keen sailors themselves. She had a lesson from Uncle Gwyndaf in CHIPAC at Pwllheli Sailing Club before deciding to go down the competitive route. This soon led to becoming a member of the Welsh squad and later on the British squad.

Mari has had the opportunity to sail all over the world but admits that sailing in Pwllheli during the summer is amazing, and its on our doorstep!

When asked what advice she would give to future stars, Mari said “Every one of you has endless potential, but your success depends on your attitude and how hard you are willing to work for it. I don’t believe people are born with talent, you need hard work and the right attitude so go for it!”

Mari is currently studying a Medicine degree at the Cardiff University and is the vice-captain of their sailing team. In the future, she hopes to help the team improve their national ranking with the aspiration to become one of the best sailing coaches in Britain.

When she’s not studying (something she does a lot of at the moment!), Mari enjoys cycling, skiing and climbing.

Mari would like to thank her parents for their endless support as well as being the world’s best taxi service, and the RYA for all of the training, support and financial support over the years. A big thank you also goes to everyone who supported her Crowdfunder page which allowed her to buy an Olympic boat, without them she wouldn’t have been able to be a part of the Olympic Sailing Team.

Good luck in the future from everyone at the Outdoor Partnership!
