Maisie began skiing at Plas y Brenin ski slope from a young age whilst enjoying family holidays to the Alps. At the age of 8, Maisie and her family moved from North Wales to Chamonix in France where she joined the local snowboard club. From this point, Maisie started competing each weekend which eventually led to trialing for the British team. After moving back to North Wales at age 14, she continued to compete part-time and join up with training camps whilst studying for her GCSE’s and A-Levels at Ysgol Friars in Bangor. Maisie completed her studies three years ago and has focused full time on her snowboarding since.

Now part of Team GB and competing all over the world  competing in the World Cup, Maisie spends most of her time in Austria but enjoys travelling to Avoriaz in France and Laax in Switzerland to vary her training. In her spare time, she enjoys other activities such as biking, wild swimming, gymnastics, skateboarding as well as being a very competent surfer. When she’s home in North Wales, Maisie spends time at Surf Snowdonia in Dolgarrog, who are also one of her sponsors which allows her to be a full time athlete.

Maisie keeps pushing herself and is enjoying her snowboarding at the moment with aspirations to make a World Cup final (top 6) and even push for a podium position in the near future. Having missed out on the recent 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang after a severe heel fracture, Maisie’s goal is to now be involved in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and even coach her own team in the future.

Through competing in the World Cup, Maisie has been able to ride alongside some of her idols such as Eva Samkova (2014 Olympic Champion from the Czech Republic), Italian multiple World Cup winner Michela Moioli and Americans Faye Gulini & Lindsey Jacobellis, who is the most decorated female snowboarder of all time!

If you are looking to get involved with skiing or snowboarding, Maisie would encourage you to surround yourself with people who are motivated and keen to learn and develop skills as you can push each other to aim higher. Joining a club is the ideal way to start and will help give you a regular routine that you need to progress. “Perfect practice makes perfect”

A big thank you goes out to Maisie’s family, friends, coaches and teammates over the years for their continued support and commitment in her success as well as her all-important sponsors, Snowsports Wales, Bangor University, Surf Snowdonia, PGL, British Ski & Snowboard, Funi Wear, Sockmine & Crevasse.

Good luck with everything in the future from all at the Outdoor Partnership!
